While advances like big data and artificial intelligence are beginning to revolutionize healthcare in high-income countries, they often fail to reach lower & middle-income countries (LMIC) with the greatest need.
Health Data Science is a pretty new discipline, and it’s a blend of epidemiology, statistics, mathematics, informatics and computer science. There is sheer shortage of data-science skills in Healthcare in LMIC. To enable the success of AI in healthcare in LMIC, building capacity at a local level mitigates the risk of bias when AI interventions are developed for LMIC.
